Gedling’s Got Talent – Application Information

Hello there!

Thank you so much for enquiring about our first talent competition for the people in Gedling Borough and the surrounding area. We are excited to be hosting this and hope that it might become an annual event.

Background

Flying High Expressive Arts CIC is a not for profit organisation based in Arnold that works in collaboration with Gedling Borough Council, the Bonington Theatre and Inspire Youth Arts to provide theatre experiences and performances for people of all ages in the local community. One of our projects is an annual visit for our Young Company to perform at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe and in 2024, the costs have risen by 20% which is making it so much more difficult for many to afford. Our policy is that we will work hard to give everyone who wishes to, the opportunity to go to Edinburgh so this competition will be one way we may be able to raise funds as well as give local individuals, pairs and groups the chance to share their talents.

How the talent competition will work in 2024

As this is our first talent competition for a number of years, we are unsure of how many entries we may receive so this is how it will be organised for 2024.

  • There will be a panel of 3 – 4 judges which we hope will include a local councillor, a professional actor/musician/dancer, a theatre practitioner and a community member.
  • Each entry must complete an application form using this link: https://flying-high.org.uk/gedlings-got-talent-form/
  • In addition, we will be asking for videos of your performance to be sent via links to Vimeo or YouTube, WeTransfer to [email protected] or WhatsApp to 07946703821. These do not have to be totally finished acts but you need to give the judges a clear idea of the performance. A short clip will not show you at your best.
  • From these entries, 20 – 24 acts will be selected to perform at the Bonington Theatre on Saturday 15thJune from 7.00pm.
  • All acts must be no longer that 4 minutes.
  • The closing date for entries is Saturday 25th May and we aim to inform you of the finalists by early June.
  • Tickets will be on sale once the finalists have been selected. N.B. The Bonington Theatre has 178 seats so tickets may be limited so those selected will have priority booking for a short time before they are opened to the general public. Please look at the Bonington Theatre website boningtontheatre.co.uk for information and updates from early June.
  • There will be cash prizes for the acts placed 1st, 2nd & 3rd and the decision of the judges will be final.

Judges Criteria

The judges will have a set of criteria for selection and, because not all acts require the same skills,  performance presence, creativity and engagement/connection/communication with the audience will be central to the decision making with a consideration of the skills/technique required for the particular genre. We aim to have a variety of acts in the final reflecting the breadth of talent in the community.
