Looking Back Over 2022

Looking Back Over 2022

  • Our Young Company performed ‘Cable Street’ by Lisa Goldman at the Bonington Theatre in March and at Derby Theatre in April. We had great feedback from audience members and the company thoroughly enjoyed both performances. The National Theatre Director was really impressed.

  • We entered 16 of our Lamda students for the Mansfield Drama Festival in March for monologues and duologues and they received helpful feedback from the adjudicator.

  • Our dance film ‘Reflection & Me’, which we created on a four day dance project in October 2021 was shown at Episodes Dance platform in Nottingham in March as part of the MY (Midlands Youth) Dance Festival on Screen. It was then selected by the National panel for the National U Dance platform (Dance on Screen) and was shown on a large screen in Birmingham and at the South Bank, London at the end of July.

  • We had great success at the Nottingham Young Creative Awards 2022 in May. Logan Miles, at age 11 was the youngest winner of the 11 – 15 Theatre category (monologues) with Juliet Grain as runner up and Mia Murdoch won the 16 – 18 Theatre category (monologues). Our dance film ‘Reflection & Me’ was runner up in the 11 – 15 Dance category. We were so proud of everyone involved.

  • Our annual showcase In July at the Bonington Theatre was such a joy to see after three years even if we only performed on one day instead of the two we had before lockdown. The young people had such a good time.

  • Lamda students took their exams in June achieving 100% pass rate again with 13 Distinctions and 4 high Merits in Grades 5 – 8. The highest mark received – 92/100 was for one of our Grade 8 students.

  • An annual highlight was our Young Company’s visit to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in August to perform Beauty and the Beast every day for 9 days to a total of 562 audience members. We had 8 performers who gave their absolute all to every performance and loved every minute of their time up there. ‘What a talented young cast! My daughter loved it and it was very sweet of them to take pictures with the kids afterwards. This was a great show and we were really lucky to see the final performance.’ Josie Long (Comedian).

  • Also in August, we had a fabulous 4 day Summer Camp ‘Come to the Movies’ for 30 young people who acted, danced and sang songs culminating in a ‘studio tour’ of the ‘Pondhills Lane Movie Studios’ where guests moved from space to space to watch scenes of movies being filmed!

  • September saw the start of a new academic year and over 90% of our members returned for another year and new members joined.

  • Just last week – Sunday 11th December, we had a fabulous Christmas Showcase at the Good Shepherd Church Hall with nearly 100 young people performing across the afternoon.

  • To finish the year with a bang we have Beauty & the Beast at the Bonington Theatre on Thursday 22nd and Friday 23rd December for 5 shows – one is sold out and the other four have only a few tickets left available.
